The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has called on the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to ensure that resolutions and declarations adopted during its meetings are translated into practical programmes that deliver direct benefits to member states and their citizens.

President Dr. Mwinyi made the call today, 23 July 2026, when he received the OACPS Secretary-General, H.E. Moussa Saleh Batraki, and his delegation at the State House in Zanzibar.

During their discussions, President Dr. Mwinyi emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the development of the Blue Economy, sustainable management of marine resources, fisheries, marine environmental conservation, as well as the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technology among member states.

He noted that Zanzibar has continued to benefit from various programmes implemented through the partnership between the OACPS and the European Union, including initiatives that empower smallholder farmers to improve agricultural productivity, meet market standards, and enhance the competitiveness of their produce.

For his part, OACPS Secretary-General H.E. Moussa Saleh Batraki expressed his appreciation for Tanzania’s contribution to the work of the Organisation and commended the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar for its efforts in advancing the Blue Economy agenda.

He further reaffirmed the OACPS’s commitment to working closely with its member states to address the challenges facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and to promote sustainable development.
