The Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation had the distinct honour of welcoming H.E. Moussa Saleh Batraki, Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), accompanied by H.E. Jestas Abuok Nyamanga, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the European Union and the OACPS, during the Secretary-General's official mission to Zanzibar.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Foundation's seaweed farming sites in Muungoni and Paje, where they met beneficiaries and witnessed first-hand how sustainable seaweed farming is transforming local communities. The initiative empowers women and youth through value addition, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods while contributing to Zanzibar's growing blue economy.
Secretary-General Batraki commended the Foundation's work as an outstanding example of community-driven development, noting that it closely aligns with the OACPS' priorities of promoting the blue economy, women's economic empowerment and inclusive, sustainable growth. The visit reaffirmed the importance of strategic partnerships in unlocking opportunities for coastal communities and advancing sustainable development across the ACP region.
