In recognition of its outstanding contribution to the promotion of the Kiswahili language in Belgium, Ghent University was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The certificate was presented to Professor Koean Boston by the Honourable Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (MP), Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, on 7 July 2026 during the World Kiswahili Language Day celebrations in Paris. Ambassador Jestas Abuok Nyamanga was among the dignitaries who witnessed the presentation ceremony.
Ghent University has made a significant contribution to the teaching of Kiswahili and the advancement of research on the language and Tanzanian culture through collaboration with various academic and institutional partners.
The celebrations were further enriched by a cultural performance from the Together As One cultural group from Luxembourg, whose members are Luxembourg nationals. Their participation highlighted the growing international appreciation of Kiswahili and Tanzanian culture, demonstrating the language's expanding global reach and cultural significance.
