During their meeting, Ambassador Nyamanga congratulated Ms. Ollongren on her recent appointment by the EU Council to this important position and assured her of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania’s close cooperation in strengthening human rights both domestically and at the international level.

He outlined the various measures the Tanzanian Government has continued to implement to promote, protect, and advance human rights, including reforms of the legal and justice systems, broader stakeholder engagement in policy formulation, and the implementation of national human rights strategies.

Ambassador Nyamanga further emphasized the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the 2025 General Elections are conducted in a fair, peaceful, transparent, and secure environment, in full respect of democratic principles and the rule of law.

For her part, Ms. Ollongren reaffirmed that Tanzania remains an important partner of the European Union and will continue to be so. She commended Tanzania for the positive steps being taken to strengthen human rights and democracy, and underlined the importance of deepening EU–Tanzania cooperation in these key areas for societal progress. She concluded by wishing Tanzania a successful general election.
